Every month at The Cambridgeshire Care Home, we recognise a member of our team through our Golden Moments award, a chance for residents and their families to tell us about the people who have made a real difference to them.
This month, that person is Basil.
Nominated three times by the same family
Basil didn’t just receive one nomination. One family was so moved by the care he had shown that they nominated him three separate times, describing his kindness, patience and support, not only towards their loved one, but towards them as a family.
That distinction matters. Good care is never just about the person living with us. It reaches out to the sons, daughters, husbands, wives and grandchildren who are navigating one of the most difficult decisions of their lives. Families notice when someone treats their relative as a person rather than a task, and they notice when that same warmth is extended to them.
What the family said
“It’s incredible to see the relationship and the bond he has built with my father.”
It’s a simple sentence, but it captures something we can’t put on a care plan. Bonds like that are built quietly, over weeks and months, in the small interactions nobody writes down: the conversations, the cups of tea, the patience on a difficult morning.
