Desert being prepared at Cambridgeshire Care Home By the Head Chef

Daily Delights

Food. It’s something we all need. Something that shapes our days without us even thinking about it. Breakfast starts you off, lunch keeps you going, and dinner feels like the cherry on top at the end. (And let’s be honest, it’s the cheeky snacks in between that really make you smile.)

But food is more than routine; it’s memories. A Sunday roast, a slice of cake with a cup of tea, the comfort of a favourite recipe. Some of life’s most cherished moments are tied to food. And when you’re thinking about care for a loved one, food might not be the first thing that comes to mind. But it matters more than we sometimes realise.

We make mealtimes a daily delight because we know that good food brings comfort and joy.

Meet Our Head Chef Kevin Bridges

head chef cambridge

Kevin isn’t just a chef, he’s an artist. Who takes enormous pride in every dish he serves. Passionate about flavour, freshness, and presentation, Kevin experiments with ingredients and techniques to make every mealtime a memorable experience.

But for Kevin, it’s not just about the food. He listens. He takes time to understand each resident’s tastes, traditions and dietary needs, so that every plate feels personal, comforting, and familiar.

Meal Time is Centered Around Connection

For us, food is also about community. Meal times at the Cambridgeshire Care Home are an opportunity to sit together, share stories, and enjoy the simple pleasure of company. Some residents prefer a quiet meal in their own space, while others love the bustle of our dining room. Whatever the choice, we make sure everyone feels at home.

  • Breakfast is a gentle start: porridge with honey, toast and jam, or a full fry-up if that’s what’s fancied.
  • Lunch keeps us going: classics like fish and chips, roast dinners, or lighter plates if preferred. It’s also a time for chatter and connection, with a family-table buzz.
  • Dinner is the day’s finale: hearty, homely, and often a little celebratory, because why shouldn’t every evening meal feel like an occasion?

And of course, the snacks. A custard cream with a cuppa, homemade cakes at afternoon tea, or a cheeky slice of sponge “just because.” These little moments of joy are part of what makes life here feel like home.

For Every Need: IDDSI & Texture-Modified Meals

We believe everyone deserves to enjoy their food. For residents with swallowing difficulties, we follow the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI). That means meals are safely prepared at the right texture, whether pureed, minced, or softened, without ever losing flavour or appeal.

Our chefs takes just as much pride in these meals as any other, making sure they look and taste delicious. Because no matter your needs, food should be something to savour, not something to worry about.

Food as an Experience

French Coffee Mornings with croissants and chansons (perhaps a little fancy dress).
Summer BBQs with smoky grills, music, and family gathered round.
Garden Parties with tea, cakes, and laughter in the sunshine, maybe even a little gin or Pimm’s?

These aren’t extras; they’re part of daily life at Cambridgeshire Care Home. Food is a reason to gather, to smile, to celebrate and our residential care, nursing care, and dementia care teams make sure every resident can enjoy these moments safely, comfortably, and with dignity.
