A relaxed afternoon of great food, great fun and great company
On Saturday 8th August, 12:00 – 16:00, we’re opening our gardens for our “At the Seaside” summer garden party — and everyone is invited. Residents, families, neighbours and anyone curious about life here.
We’re bringing the seaside to Great Shelford
There’s something about the seaside that stays with you. Salt in the air, a brass band drifting across the promenade, an ice cream eaten quickly before it melts down your wrist. For many of our residents those memories go back decades — days out at Hunstanton, Southwold and Great Yarmouth, family holidays measured in windbreaks and sandy sandwiches.
So this summer, rather than travelling to the coast, we’re bringing the coast to us.
What to expect
A relaxed afternoon in the garden with great food, great fun and great company. That’s the whole brief, and we think it’s a good one.

Most of all, it’s a chance to spend unhurried time together: grandchildren running about on the lawn, neighbours dropping in, residents introducing their families to the people they now see every day.
Why we open our gardens
Events like this aren’t an extra at The Cambridgeshire Care Home. They’re part of how we think about life here.
Moving into a care home shouldn’t mean stepping back from the things that make a life feel full — family, friends, community, celebration. Our garden parties are one of the ways we keep those threads connected, and one of the ways the home stays part of the village rather than apart from it.
For families, it’s also a chance to see the home as it really is: not on a scheduled tour, but on an ordinary Saturday afternoon with everyone in it.
Who the invitation is for
There’s no obligation and no sales pitch. Just an open gate and a warm welcome.
